Here in Idaho

I will find a way. And I will have you.

Today’s post is brought to you by the letter ‘O.’ Mrs. Q has tagged me for an obsessive meme. What are my five top obsessions? You sooo don’t want to know. But just in case you do:

1. My email accounts. I have a minor OCD complex when it comes to checking my email. My spaminated, worthless email accounts. It’s ridiculous, really. I also have a strange compulsion to visit various news sites every few hours. And by ‘news sites,’ I really mean “Perez Hilton.” This makes me a worthless human being.

2. Books. That’s all. Just books. I collect vintage books and I MUST MAKE IT to the FRIENDS OF THE BONNER COUNTY LIBRARY SALE EVERY MONTH OR I WILL DIE! Y’all don’t even know…I got a half a set of vintage encyclopedias for TWO DOLLA! And a barely-held-together grammar text book from the 1920s for FIVE DOLLA! So lots of people like books, right? This in itself is not an obsession. The obsessive part is that in the back of my mind, I’m imagining that I’m saving early twentieth century books from destruction by purchasing them. Who thinks like this? Only crazy people, that’s who.

3. Cleanliness and good housekeeping. Oh…no…wait. What I meant to say was sleeping. Everybody sleeps, yes I know. And sometimes people take occasional naps, yes, no big deal. But my body operates on a different dimension than yours. In my world, two hour + naps are required on the weekends, required I tell you. In Kristi-land we don’t wake up until X o’clock on weekdays. I will not list X o’clock as it is a point of contention with my employed husband who leaves the house every morning before X o’clock.

4. Stalking old friends. Thanks to the magical fairyland of myspace, email, blogger and the many, many other extraordinary stalking devices provided by my friend named the internets, I know where everyone is. By ‘everyone’ I mean ‘everyone who I hung out with in high school.’ I have a rare sociopathic disorder requiring me to know where everyone is, even if I never speak to them or see them in person again for as long as I live. Fortunately, my stalking activities are limited to the occasional email, so I’m not in danger of immediate incarceration. Yet.

5. I am unable to watch a movie without something in my hands. A crossword puzzle, crocheting, knitting, a small animal, a hand grenade, a dagger…the object does not really matter. Will hates me for not being able to sit and watch a movie with him without nearly stabbing him with my razor sharp sewing needles.

So I’m a little Rain Man. Sue me. I tag Angel, Beck, Riley, Elaine and anyone else who wishes to spill their guts on the internets.

Now you are speaking my language. I don’t even know if I can do your meme without copying you, because I’m totally with you on numbers one through four. No wonder we’re such good friends. Virtually speaking. I have a whole set of Sesame Street Library books (I think it’s 11 volumes) from 1978 that I bought at a garage sale for some ungodly low price. Whoo hoo!

I have re-created my entire set of Child Horizon storybooks from ebay. The Sesame Street Library books take me back. Back to the days when I ‘practiced cutting’ by cutting up my books and ‘practiced drawing’ by drawing pictures in the covers. I was a bad girl.

Things we have in common:
1. I have my computer speakers on all day so I can hear when email comes in. Because otherwise IT MIGHT GET STALE.
2. Hell, yeah! My prized possessions are a 1911 copy of “Money Making Entertainments For Church and Charity” and a filthy, filthy jokebook from the 1930s, when everyone was apparently a pack of pigs.
3. The sleeping thing. I. MUST. SLEEP.
4. Eh, a bit - I’ll google people but that’s as far as I go.
Not five, though. I am a slug.
All right! A tag!

You so totally ROCK!! I love your obsessions!

Since when did you start having a Chinese accent? I mean, DOLLA? Maybe that sounds diff’rent than “dollah.” I was at this Japanese art store a few weeks ago and there was this old (could be anywhere from 60-90 you know how Asians age) Chinese guy (I know, threw me off having him in a Japanese woodblock print store) and I really liked this one print. The guy comes up to me and says, “You pay cash, it 75 dollah! No tax! 75 dollah! Udderwise, use credit card, 85 dollah plus tax!”

Books! I love books. But I hates clutter. I SO LOVE LIBRARIES. I cannot believe it’s FREE! OK, there are taxes that pay for it but still.

Girl, you done made me a married woman! I’m still single and hoping to deactivate my online personal ad!

Your book obsession sounds familiar. I love old books with the pages falling out, and new books with the pages stuck together and everything in between. I get a little panicky knowing there are so many books I’ll never even know about, let alone read.

Blogging is another obsession. I have to find a new favorite every day, which means reading several that don’t appeal. And I have to keep up with all my old favorites, and weeding out the ones that turned out to be losers. It’s like a part-time job!

I’ll be back here for sure! I love your posts!

I have four different email accounts, so you could say I am obsessed too. And don’t get me started on books. I crave sleep and try and nap often especially on weekends.

todd advises you not to mess with the 80’s master. (since he was way older then he ought to know!)

If you can handle the rodents (mice, husband, spiders), you’re on!

I have exactly the same feelings about antique books. A local artist did some really cool pieces on old book covers and even though some of them were amazing, all I could think was “Elderly books were harmed in the making of this art!”
