NANANANANANAOWRIMMOOMO Updates
Nov 10th, 2007 by Kristi
Here we are, ten days into Nanowrimo, and I am very much in the honeymoon stage of writing this story. Here’s the stats so far:
Number of words: 9543
Number of chapters: eight
Number of subplots: zero. Still working on the whole subplot thing.
Number of days left: 20
Likelihood I’ll reach 50,000 by then: Don’t bet on it.
But that’s ok. Because I’m blissfully aware that 50,000 words does not a good story make. No…that was my mistake last year. I rushed and by the end I was eager to get the whole thing over with. And by ‘honeymoon stage,’ I mean I’m really happy to be writing this story. Not just happy:

But laughing Buddha happy:

So here’s the point of this post: First, thanks for reading this blog. It’s a little sparse this month, and it will most likely remain sparse for the duration of of the holidays.
Second, who else is writing? Nanowrimo lost their ‘author search’ function so I’m not able to look y’all up.
Third, less ged down to the neety greety…how do you write? I love love LOVE, reading about other writer’s habits and rituals. I don’t know why…maybe I’m a weirdo. Like the fact that JK Rowling handwrites the Harrys…fascinating. And she fills notebooks full of backstories and character charts and probably favorite magic recipes that no one will ever see…unbelievable. Me? Not so much. But I do write a lot by hand these days. This is because the internets is distracting. And my kids are distractinger. So I head out to the library or Starbucks in the evenings to do the dirty work. So there you go. You?

Most months I can barely make myself write even when there are no distractions. But this month I have been very, very good. I close myself in my bedroom, ignore the children (especially if they are fighting, or need something) and just hone in. I’ve kind of amazed myself.
Oh and I think I can find you if you tell me your user name, and maybe your home region. Mine is mirrornell and I’m in the Massachusetts :: Berkshires region.
I don’t write ANYTHING. Occasionally I will write a poem on a scrap of paper and then I will lose it. And thus is my literary legacy lost to the world.
Without my typewriter (computer) I got nothing. I also am way behind with my novel. So it goes.
I’m just over 8,000, but I’m still going to try for 50,000 by the end of the month. I just need one good day of little to no real work, and I should be all set.
You inspired me! I am trying to write to. I’m catching up to you. 237 words so far…oh wait…yeah…hmmmm…..
I need to start writing more.
You’re further along than me. I’m at 2,000 words. But on my other novel, the one that I have been working on since before you started Swindler’s daughter, I’m at approximately 40,000 words. Clearly, I should have known better than to think I’d hit 50,000 in one month.
I do a lot of handwriting and typing. I do freewrites a lot, nearly every day. These never get included in my word count. Only what I type gets included in the word count. Which is probably why my numbers sound so few… oh well. To each their own.
