Macaroni Wishes and Smo-Fry Dreams
Nov 23rd, 2007 by Kristi
We had a killer Thanksgiving. Choose your friends wisely, dear readers, and you will get some great food every now and then. I can cook, but I can’t cook. I’ll do a mean roast beef and a wicked pork chop, but once you get past the cooking basics, I’m no good. Not so true with our friends. We have one set of friends who specialize in all things Italian. A visit to their house is a Mediterranean lalapalooza. Another set, the ones we spent Thanksgiving with, are just incredible at comfort foods. So the stuffing was incredible, the potatoes were divine, the everything was awesome.
What did I bring?
A vegetable plate minus the celery and a pumpkin pie. This is why I am a loser.
In addition to doing a turkey, stuffing, all the trimmings, including but not limited to homemade rolls, my friends baked multiple pies and her own gravy from scratch. I was expected to remember my cheesy macaroni. I forgot it. Will, who should actually patent his method of smoking/frying turkey, created the most fantastic turkey I’ve ever ate. And I forgot the one thing I was supposed to actually put an effort into. I pretty sure this particular Thanksgiving will come back to haunt me until the day I die. Yay me.
So let me give you a few quick updates about things here in Idaho.
First, the story is going well. I’m aiming for a thousand words a day, more or less. Most days, less. But I’m at 20,000 words so far, with plenty of story to go. Of course, 50,000 was a pipe dream, but I hope to hit it by Christmas. And then, for anyone who is willing, I would love critiques and feedback. Just let me know…and ps I’m so grateful for those of you who are willing to help me out. Seriously. You have no idea.
Second, big news for all you writers out there. Particularly the funny ones. Cracked is soliciting articles for their blog. You have to pitch your ideas on a super secret forum, then just wait and see what becomes of them. If the editor gives you the green light you can write the article for the blog, which is a mega-high-traffic site. I’ve submitted two articles so far, and they’ve fallen on deaf eyes. But it’s all good. I’m working on a few more. I’LL MAKE THEM LOVE ME!!!!!!

i’d love to edit, read, or critique your work. i’m sure it’s quite fancy. ;-D
Thanks for the tip on Cracked. And oh, 20,000 words, you are my idol! I’d love to take a read if you like.
